| Tutor: | Philip Broderick | | | Rating: | (What's this?) | | Gender: | Male | | Location: | Canterbury - Christchurch City | | Price Range: | $30-40 per hour | | Education Level: | Graduate/Master Degree | | Institute: | Rice University | | Major: | Music | | Subject: | Music | Level: | All levels |
| Tutoring Experience: Philip began his career as a teacher while a graduate student, and coached his students to success in regional competitions and solo performances. In fact, his students maintained a 100% success rate when auditioning for their regional honor band. Philip also put his English minor (earned during his time at Baylor) to use by teaching reading skills to students in the Kumon Learning Center in Houston, Texas.
After graduating from Rice University in 2006 with his Master of Music degree, Philip was added to the faculty of the Barthelmes Conservatory in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where he developed a clarinet curriculum in an institution that had previously only offered tuition in piano, strings, and percussion. At the Conservatory, Philip taught under-privileged students from the Tulsa metropolitan area whose talents merited full scholarships. Philip also taught private students from the Tulsa area, and those students continued his legacy in his hometown with a 100% acceptance rate into the Oklahoma Music Educators Association all-state honor band and orchestra. Philip also coached the clarinet section for Union High School. | Description: I offer tuition in clarinet and recorder.
My primary aim in teaching is to make music enjoyable and accessible for my students. Whether she be a brand-new beginner or in preparation for her graduate school auditions, I want to enable her to make the best music that she can and to accomplish whatever goals she has. Seeing the pleasure and satisfaction that my students get when they master a new skill, or put on a performance that they are truly proud of, is what makes teaching so rewarding for me. And I hope that the good experiences we have together, and the skills that I help my students develop, will lead my students to a lifelong love of music.

My name is Natalie, and I'm a first year university student at Otago.
Coming straight out of high school, I am very familiar with the NCEA system. I passed NCEA Level 2 with Excellence overall and Level 3 with Merit.
I prefer to work with the student to find out where their strengths and weaknesses lie, before figuring out a method of teaching and learning that will benefit the student most. I have tutored students who learn in a variety of different ways, and so can apply various different strategies to help students understand ideas and concepts. I will usually try and stick to one topic until the student has a firm grasp of it, before moving on to something new or more advanced.
My native language is English, and I was raised here in New Zealand. I am happy to tutor wherever students feel most comfortable, whether this be at home, in a library, or at KFC (yes, I have tried this one before!).
I am happy to tutor any student at primary, intermediate, or secondary school, and look forward to hearing from you!

| Tutoring Experience: I have taught a couple of students over the years and have also done a lot of relieving teaching at music programmes that run for children on Saturday mornings. I enjoy working with anyone who is willing to learn and is excited by music. | Description: I am currently studying towards my Masters of Music majoring in composition at the New Zealand School of Music at Victoria University. I play the piano, clarinet and bassoon. I am interested in tutoring anyone interested in learning these three instruments and also in composition and theory. I play in groups around Wellington and work as a freelance musician, arranger and composer as well as part time in a cafe to support myself. I have a studio at home to teach in but am also happy to travel to teach people at their home. Alternatively I have a space in central city that I can also use for teaching but this is only available to me at certain times.
My tutoring style varies depending on the student. I can do group lessons or individual lessons. If students want to go through either the Trinity College or Royal School of Music examination system I am happy to put them through it. However if a student just wants to learn something specific (e.g. I have a student at the moment who only wants to learn the Beatles) then I'm happy to do that too.

"Best tutor I've ever had. Tutorials were very helpful, related directly to course content. Interesting discussion, useful exercises."
