Description:
When I was a PostGraduate in Computer Science Department at University of Auckland, I worked as marker and tutor.

After graduation, I worked as an IT Network Engineerer up to date. But I prefer to be a versatile person than a geek although my nickname is Oddboy. All that makes you feel I am odd is that I am normal. How normal? Just a normal mind combined with two culture - China and New Zealand due to my background.

I can also tutor topics on Cisco and Microsoft, as well as other hand-on networking practical tricks.

Besides Computer Science, I have practised Chinese Martial Arts for 15 years, in Wu Dang style, teaching Bagua, Taichi Quan etc. Bruce Lee is my idol and Nachaku is one of my favourite weapons. I am a Qualified Martial Arts Coach in China and Referee by Chinese Wushu Association.

At this stage, I am not ready to teach student in Computer Science unless you prove you are really fun. I believe there must be some other very good tutors specialised in Computer Science in Tutorshome. But I am open to make friends with those who think they are open-minded and enjoy bringing happiness into this lovely world.

The price all depends on my how free I am recently and how much I like you or the other way around.

Description:
Hi! I’m a qualified and provisionally registered NZ teacher who is currently teaching mathematics and statistics in a large Auckland secondary school. I have been working as an education professional prior to my current teaching position. I worked at The University of Auckland for four years as a teaching assistant and a research assistant. My teaching role at the university involved both classroom teaching and one-to-one tutoring. Through these roles, I have developed effective teaching skills to help students achieve successful learning outcomes. I am able to build positive rapport with my students through patient listening and thoughtful instructions. The student feedback rating for my classes have been consistently above 9 out of 10. After graduating in 2007 in the top percentile of students, I was offered a research assistant position by my professor. With my personal experience and involvement in world leading research, I believe I have the winning formula in creating success stories for students.

I am currently doing my third year BA applied psychology degree via correspondence from South Africa. I realised that I needed assistance with this module. I contacted Johnson Yuan and asked for assistance. Johnson was most helpful in presenting the concepts of statistics, albei the content is from a degree in a different country. I can highly recommend Johnson in the way he communicates the subject, presents himself and his knowledge of statistics. He presents the concepts by breaking them down into basic forms and draws on analogies for further understanding.

I can honestly recommend Johnson to anyone wanting to understand the theory and practical side of statistics.

Hey, well You really helped me out with my Science project, and if it wasnt for you i would be soo lost, haha, but anyway i really want to thank you for helping me with it, and i got 80% on it = ) which is soo awesome thanks to you!,

i did statistic last semister and i was in Johnson's tutorial. i have been to his every single tutorials, i can say loudly i understood more in his tutorial than in the lecture. he know the way how to teach and he always chear me up if i got stucked.
Without Johnson's help i would never get a A for my stats.
This semister, i recommend my friends to go to his tutorial, because he is a great tutor.

Johnson is a really great tutor!!

Not only is he a patient and helpful tutor in statistics, he also helped me a lot in Maths108. I find maths a very difficult subject in general, but with Johnson's assistance, I became more confident in Maths and not as puzzled as I use to be.

Furthermore, Johnson, is really friendly and an easily approachable tutor.

I wouldn't suggest anyone better than JOHNSON YUAN as a stats/maths tutor!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

Johnson has been really helpful with my stats.
After my average performance in my Level 3 NCEA stats mock exams, Johnson has help build my confidence with Stats and I know feel I can get Merits and aiming to get Excellence's in the end of years.
Thanks again Johnson. Great tutor and definitely worth driving over the bridge for tutoring :D.

What more can I say, except for he is the only tutor I'd ever come across that actually does his job, make you understand things that you cannot understand before.

Like many people I was completely lost in the beginning of Stats20x (you cannot be more lost in Stats20x then I was, as I did not do the recommended paper for Stats20x, so yeah....) and of course struggled throughout Stats20x assignments, however with Johnson’s tutorials it made everything a real breeze and very understandable.

One unique thing about Johnson is that he DOES NOT teach/talk in gibberish like how lecturers and many tutors do these days. And also he always makes sure you have the prerequisite knowledge (with revision) before he starts tutoring what is required, that way you'll understand what he is tutoring. With that you often wonder why can’t more tutors or lecturers be more like him, as it would make Uni sooo much easier.

Like many, I attended every tutorial that Johnson was teaching, I couldn’t miss any, knowing that if I did, it'll be the same as missing 1-2 weeks of lectures. I think those who attended his tutorials will agree with me that you learn and understand more things in Johnson tutorials than in lectures.

So to conclude Johnson really knows his stuff and the way to teach it, he is patience, has excellent communication skills and presentation. He gives out good notes and very useful tips, which are extremely helpful for assignments, test and exams. You simply cannot ask for more!

Thank you again Johnson for teaching the Stats20x tutorial, without your help and tutoring I would not know where I'll be >_< .

^^

Johnson has been my statistics tutor for 'data analysis 208' in the University of Auckland.

Johnson has provided me a pathway to a deeper understanding in statistics.

Things that I could not understand during the lecture were clearly explained by Johnson and I was able to completely understand them.

When I approached him to ask questions, he was really friendly and the way of his explanation is clear and systematic.

Johnson knows what he is teaching and he tries to explain things from student's point of view rather than just tutor or teacher's point of view.

overall, I really enjoyed being taught by him,

and I fully recommend you to have Johnson as a Tutor!!!

Johnson tutored my 13yo sister for her science exam last year which she passed with around 70%! Considering that she had never received a mark that high in any subject before and has consistently failed science we were so happy with that. This year she has made a commitment to working hard to pass her subjects and I credit Johnson with this change in her attitude. I would highly recommend Johnson to anyone needing a tutor.

I am a south african currently living in Auckland New Zealand. I am studying via correspondence through the University of South Africa. Johnson, helped me with Statistics for Quality Engineers. His assistance was great. After just 2 sessions, I had a complete grasp of concepts that I hadnt been able to understand for months. I had a total of 3 sessions and confidently sat for my STATS exams for the second time. I am pleased to say that although I havent received my results yet I am pretty confident that I would have passed. My understanding of Statistics has been greatly enhanced and I am confident that I can take on STATS 4 with a firm foundation. Johnson was always punctual and took time of his schedule to see us at short notice. He utilised the hour long sessions to the max and even responded to my questions via email for free. I would gladly reccommend Johnson to anyone seeking a tutor for STATs.

[By Rick Wan]created: 04 Jul 2007
JOHNSON SAVED MY LIFE!!!

I think the above statement speaks for itself. I was so lost when I was doing STATS 310, one of the hardest stage 3 stats paper out there, as many of you would agree. Cris (the lecturer) was great, he knows what he's talking about but unfortunately he's not that great in making me understand. And...there comes Johnson!!!

Johnson is absolutely amazing at explaining stats concepts from top to bottom, inside out. I seriously wonder if there's anything he doesn't know. Just by spending about 8 hours (if I remember correctly) with him, I was made a B+ student from one that was almost surely going to fail.

So just before you say "nah, stuff that paper, can't be bothered anymore", try Johnson.

a very patient and kind person to deal with ! explains everything superbly !

one awsome tutor !!!

Hey.
Prior to getting tution from Johnson, i had been passing Level 3 Statistics and Modelling with 'Achieveds' and occasionally 'Not Achieveds' in my topic tests.
However this all changed once my mum recommended me to Johnson.

I have to give credit to Johnson, who with his great knowledge in Statistics helped me achieve better marks. Unlike other tutors, he does not simply just indulge in the theory behind the stats questions. But will also guide you in solving actual problems.

Thanks a lot Johnson! Without your help im very sure i wouldn't have gotten all excellences in my NCEA Level 3 stats exam.

Johnson tutored my daughter for Level 2 Maths in 2009. Johnson was always on time and came evey week with a plan to motivate and teach her. As a consequence she worked and passed very successfully. I would recommend Johnson.

Tutor:Michael Tsai
Rating:rating (What's this?)
Gender:Male
Location:Auckland - Auckland City
Price Range:$30-40 per hour
Education Level:Graduate/Master Degree
Institute:University of Auckland
Major:Biomedical sciences
Subject:BiologyLevel:All levels
Subject:EnglishLevel:Secondary(Form 3-5)
Subject:ScienceLevel:Secondary(Form 3-5)
Tutoring Experience:
I am experienced in teaching English, Biology and the general sciences in the secondary level and have a variety of resources to cater for the needs of each student. Back in the secondary level, I undertook the CIE (cambridge international examinations) and gained exceptional grades and won the English prize for my overall year group.

I have students attempting the NCEA, IB and CIE systems and thus understands the necessary requirements needed to excel in the respective courses. My students range from as early as year 9 to as advanced as first year biomedical students aiming to become medical students in the following year for medicine. For my first year biomedical students, I offer comprehensive and detailed sessions that allow the students to completely understand and advance beyond the mainstream progress. As biomedical science is my major, I understand where emphasis should be put with each paper making life just that bit easier and less stressful.

I am currently tutoring students for Biosci 107, Biosci 101, Chem 110 and Population Health 111 here at the University of Auckland.

I feel that I have the means to go in depth with the course material and focus on the important aspects, which may not be so obvious to the mainstream. Extensive UMAT and Interview preparation can also be provided through me if interested as I have many notes and researched on the topics very thoroughly and am currently applying them to my students.

I am also a mentor of the MATES (Mentoring and Tutoring Education Scheme) programme at the university of Auckland. MATES works with Year 12-13 students identified by their schools as 'having the potential to succeed in tertiary education'. Through a combination of mentoring and tutoring, MATES aims to encourage academic achievement, raise aspirations and enhance self-confidence.

The most enjoyable thing about tutoring or mentoring is finding a student who has the heart to learn and is always wanting more than what I give. That way not only will we be able to connect in the subject and look forward to each session, but also excel above the rest.
Description:
I have finished studying the biomedical sciences degree at the University of Auckland and am currently continuing with the postgraduate studies with the intention to combine the specialist field with enterprise (business) degree. I graduated from Auckland Grammar School in year 2005. I have been living in New Zealand for 14 years now and am also bilingual with Mandarin being my other language.

The location for tutoring is quite flexible for me, however, I do prefer tutoring on the University campus but does not bother me to drop down to a location near the city and central suburb.

The general tutoring style I prefer is on 1 on 1. However, a group up to 3 people is fine as well. Hourly rates ($40 per hour) will decrease for each individual in a group setting. I tend to tutor in a step by step systematic approach to allow the student to gather information easily in a tidy/easily presented manner. I also question and discuss topics with the student for confirmation of their understand and is open for listening to potential issues. I am a relatively open person and can adapt to the individual needs/styles of students as I understand the pressures of study and achieving in school. Thanks for reading.

Michael tutors me in IB(International Baccularate) HL chemistry. He is a great tutor and tutors chemistry in an easy-to-understand way, and uses real life examples. He makes hard concepts a lot easier to understand and diffinately makes chemistry a lot less boring.
I would reccomend Michael as a tutor to anyone who needs tutoring in Chemistry.

Michael is a very good tutor he has helped me get all my A+ at uni, if it were not for him i would probably have failed thanks!

[By Kieran Chong]created: 30 Jun 2010
In 2008 I completed my first year studying Biomed at Auckland University. As expected it was no walk in the park and I don’t think I have ever studied as much as I did that year. I managed to achieve all A grade marks. Reflecting on my first year at uni I would have to say part of my success was thanks to Michael.

Two papers that I found Michael a great help for were Biosci107 and Medsci142, which are two of the core papers. The weekly tutorials he held were well organised and in a relaxed and friendly environment. The topics covered in each tutorial were in sufficient depth for the exams and sometimes more. We were given well prepared notes to take away with us which was definitely an asset when it came down to test/exam studying. The tutorials were also a great opportunity to ask questions on concepts that I was finding difficult. Because Michael is a student himself, I found it much easier to approach him and ask for help rather than trying to make an appointment with the lecturers.

Both 107 and 142 had a huge amount of content to learn and it was a lot easier to manage with Michael’s advice on which areas to focus on more specifically. As we went through each topic he would tell us what areas he thought we were more likely to get tested on, and more often than not he was right. Having tips like this was a major advantage going into the exams for me – very handy considering first year biomed is so competitive.

Michael is an extremely competent tutor. He has a broad understanding of his topics and is able to communicate well. His lessons are well prepared, contain a good amount of content, and his methods of teaching are very effective. I would definitely recommend him as a tutor.

Chen is a great maths and physics tutor. His personality is fun and lovely as he always put lots of effort to teach me. I was struggling with maths and physics and Chen was a tremendous help in helping me get a good understanding. He knows the materials and always well prepared. Chen is an awesome Maths tutor. He’s really nice and really wants to help build up my confidence in Maths. He’s very organised and brings resources such as a whiteboard to make the lesson more fun and interactive. He also brings past exam papers and textbooks to help me out further.
He teaches techniques in maths which make hard questions simple and so much easier to understand and work out.
I strongly recommend Chen as a tutor.

Helped me with lvl 2 physics and chemistry during the holidays, and gave me a head start compared to my classmates. Chen has helped me not only during tutoring but outside of tutoring as well. The advice I received is very much appreciated, and now I have done considerably better throughout my 6th form year compared to my academic outlook in the past.

Chen helped me with NCEA Level 3 Calculus and Chemistry last year.
I wasn't doing very well on level 2 Math but Chen helped me to get through level 3. He is a very good tutor. He taught me many skills, in particular how to use logical thinking to solve complex Math problems. I highly recommend Chen as a tutor, he can help you learn alot from him!

Description:
We are experienced in teaching English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics and the general sciences from the secondary level up to the 1st year university stage and have a variety of resources to cater for the needs of students. We cover subject areas under the CIE and NCEA curriculums and are very competent as academic prize winners in our own respective tutor subjects.

Due to extensive expereinces we understands the necessary requirements needed to excel in the respective curriculums. Previous students range from as early as year 9 to as advanced as first year biomedical students aiming to become medical students in the following year. For first year biomedical/healthscience students, I offer comprehensive and detailed sessions that allow the students to completely understand and advance beyond the mainstream progress. AVANCETUTORS understand where emphasis should be put with each paper making life just that bit easier and less stressful.

The university schedule currently offers student workshops for Biosci 107, Biosci 101, Chem 110 and Population Health 111 here at locations close to the University of Auckland.

All the tutors of this organisation have been exceptional at the highest levels with the course material and focus on the important aspects, which may not be so obvious to the mainstream. Extensive UMAT and Interview preparation can also be provided as there are booklets and specialised workshops with thorough researched on the topics very thoroughly having applied them to students of 2008 and 2009 and having 10+ students entering the medical programme in the 2008 year group.

Our goal is ensuring the students in 'having the potential to succeed in education'. Through a combination of mentoring and tutoring, AVANCETUTORS aims to encourage academic achievement, raise aspirations and enhance self-confidence.

The most enjoyable thing about tutoring or mentoring is finding a student who has the heart to learn and is always wanting more than what we provide. That way not only will we be able to connect in the subject and look forward to each session, but also excel above the rest.
This year has been yet another successful year in providing help for students throughout all levels in achieving academic success.
