Education Level:High school
Institute:Corran School
Major:English, French, History
Subject:EnglishLevel:Secondary(Form 3-5)
Subject:EnglishLevel:Secondary(Form 6-7)
Tutoring Experience:
During my school years I tutored many of my peers in the CIE syllabus for English.

I am now studying an for a Bachelor of Arts majoring in English at the University of Auckland.

I have also tutored a variety of subjects to forms 1 and 2 students.
Description:
Before starting to tutor students, I like to ensure I have a good understanding and knowledge of the format of the course (especially forms 3 and 4) and the texts being studied (especially forms 5-7). I also like to see any notes taken during class, handouts given out by the teacher and samples of the student's work so that I can evaluate both what the teacher is trying to achieve, and the student's own strengths and weaknesses. This will allow me to provide a focus for tutoring sessions.

I plan lessons in advance to focus on various aspects of the texts and analytic techniques, and for forms 5-7 I will also set practice essay work weekly if this is where the student is having difficulties as I know from experience how vital this practice is to succeeding in CIE examinations in English.

I am also available on a more intensive, help-before-exams basis in which I focus more on making sure the student has a basic, yet thorough understanding of the texts in the limited time available.

English is subject that allows for a variety of approaches and I find that tutoring works best when the student interacts and contributes to the sessions.

I specialise in the Cambridge International Examination (CIE) syllabi for Forms 5, 6 and 7, having done IGCSE, AS and A Level English examinations during my own schooling, thus my essay tutoring is aimed at CIE students. I am available to tutor for NCEA students, however the sessions would not include essay writing.

I am happy to tutor in your home or at a public library, dependent on what is suitable for you.

I will tutor both individuals and small groups and am prepared to negotiate rates dependant on the number of sessions I undertake to tutor and number of students in each session accordingly.

I have been his student since Form 5 in ESOL, then he helped me on my various math assignments in my university first year. I love his clearn explanation of concepts and he is always patient with my questions. Although I do not have his tuition anymore, we always keep in touch because we are good friends.

Nelson offers a great service that is totally geared around what’s best the student only moving on when new problems and ideas have been fully understood. His ability to explain complicated mathematical problems in a clear and concise way is fantastic.

I can’t recommend him enough.

Paul.
