My tutoring focuses those looking for a career in the Health Sciences.

Students studying Health Science First Year at Otago Uni or students in 7th form wishing to get extra preparation for the course would benefit most from my tutoring.

Having completed the HSFY course in 2007 with excellent marks (A+ in all papers), I know what it takes to achieve the marks required for entry into the professional health science degrees. 2007 was the first year a large overhaul in the structure of HSFY was implemented. New papers such as CELS191, HUBS 191 and 192 place an emphasis on areas not previously covered before in HSFY. It is therefore imperative for a tutor to have first hand experience in these papers.

I also offer tutoring for those preparing for UMAT. The umat test now accounts for one third of your overall mark for entry into medicine. Early and regular preparation is necessary to achieve good marks in this test. I have now sat this test two times. My first attempt was without preparation and I performed poorly. My second attempt was made after large amounts of preparation and subsequently I scored in the 99th percentile overall.

I will be available mainly in Dunedin during semester time but also in Christchurch during holiday time.

I am a 26 year-old native speaker of German holding a degree in Secondary Teaching (English, Education, Social Studies). At school I also learned French, Latin and a little bit Old Greek, later on also a little Spanish.

I like to learn from many different cultures and hope that I can encourage my students to do the same - not to only learn the language, but also to broaden their minds.
"Teaching" to me not only means to 'transfer knowledge' about a certain subject but also to help students become more confident.

I try to find a compromise between what my students are expected to learn for their exams, what they are interested in and what I think might be useful for them.
Whenever I can, I try to think e.g. of a game or an excercise involving them physically - trying to make it more interesting and easier for them to learn.
My focus is on giving students the opportunity to listen to and talk in German. However, I can easily adjust that to the needs of the individual student and e.g. focus more on reading and writing skills or grammar.

I can teach either at my place or at any place in Dunedin that is accessible by bus since I don't have a car.
