| Tutor: | Zoe Aitchison-Windeler | | | Rating: | (What's this?) | | Gender: | Female | | Location: | Waikato - Hamilton | | Price Range: | $40-50 per hour | | Education Level: | Graduate/Master Degree | | Institute: | Waikato University | | Major: | Sociology | | Subject: | Literacy / Numeracy | Level: | All levels | | Subject: | Assignment Writing | Level: | All levels | | Subject: | Cognitive Reasoning | Level: | All levels |
| Tutoring Experience: SUMMARY:
* MIQuest Tutoring for Adults: Cognitive Skills for Career Entry including tuition for Abstract, Numerical & Verbal reasoning.
* SPELD Tutoring for children: Literacy & Numeracy for Children with average to above average abilities, but who learn differently or who are dropping behind at school.
Tutoring Experience:
Presently, 2009 on: I give private tutoring to people of all ages from children through to adults. I specialise in teaching spelling and reading and numbers to primary aged children as well as literacy to adults who have missed out on a literacy education. I also do distance proof reading for academic assignments and essay writing (email me for Terms & Conditions). In my Learning Clinic I use techniques to enhance competence and confidence and offer learning personality profiles to support this. I also offer tutoring in cognitive reasoning skills (verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning skills) for adults wishing to sit Cognitive Skills Tests prior to entering the Police Academy or Fire Service or wishing to sit any other cognitive tests for career selection or entrance.
The following is a chronology of my tutoring experience:
1. 1997 - to present: With qualifications through SpELD Waikato, I teach spelling, reading, writing and numbers. I am a qualified and registered teacher trained in teaching children with specific learning disabilities / dyslexia.
2. 1998 - 2000: Taught adult literacy through Literacy Aotearoa (Literacy Waikato branch) located at WINTEC to adult students of all ages.
3. 2001-2002: Taught at the Hamilton Skills Centre as the Learning Assistance tutor in literacy and numeracy for youth at risk (ages 14-18).
4. 2002-2006: Taught at Te Wananga O Aotearoa as the Learning/Academic Advisor in Literacy / Numeracy and Academic Writing Skills to adult Maori and Pakeha students.
5. 2006- end of 2008: Taught Abstract, Numerical and Verbal Reasoning skills (I.Q.-type skills) through Edvance Training for preparation for the Police Pre-Entry Test. | Description: Tutor Certificate and Qualification
I have a Masters degree in Sociology (Waikato University) and a Bachelors Honours degree in Anthropology/Sociolinguistics (Victoria University). I have a Diploma in Teaching (Secondary Division), Certificate in Adult Teaching (WINTEC), Certificate in Adult Literacy Tutoring (Literacy Aotearoa), Certificated Speld Teacher (SpELD Waikato), Adult Reading and Literacy Assistance Certificate (ARLA), NETS Reading Instructor Certificate (Network for Education & Training Strategies NZ Ltd), Diploma in Holistic Teaching (4/6papers completed through the Creative Learning Company).
I apply a holistic approach, using Visual, Auditory, Tactile and Kinesthetic methods in teaching Spelling, Reading, Writing, Comprehension and Numbers to average and above average learners who have been falling behind in their school work or who learn differently.
Many of my students may have forms of dyslexia or other learning disabilities (eg. lack of competence in visual or auditory discrimination skills that affect writing or comprehension). This can make it difficult for them to learn in a typical school situation. In my tutoring practice, I work with the student to remediate the underpinning difficulties affecting their school attainment levels.
I always do a full diagnostic assessment for motor and spatial co-ordination, visual and auditory skills, phonemic awareness, integration, spelling and reading prior to tutoring. This isolates the students strengths and weaknesses so a tailor-made programme can be developed for them.
I teach Literacy to students who have English as a First language, but have experience in teaching those who may be bi-lingual or bi-cultural (eg.Maori).
I tutor from my Learning Clinic at home.
In the field of adult learning, I received the "Most Innovative Team Award" along with four other advisors at the Learning Centre at Te Wananga O Aotearoa, Hamilton Campus, in 2005. I taught essay writing skills for academic achievement in papers up to masters level for four years on this campus and helped both students and staff with their professional development so they could pass their courses and gain their qualifications.
I use methods of brain-based teaching and accelerated learning to advance children and adults who have learning difficulties or who have not had the opportunity to learn through their own learning styles.
I offer a full Learning Styles Analysis - Child or Adult - (which students do on-line) which generates an eight page profile of their learning styles which I can then explain and elaborate upon.
Through MIQuest Educational Services, I also offer a Multiple Intelligences Assessment which is based on the works of Howard Gardner, an Educational-Psychologist at Harvard University. I determine a childs Multiple Intelligences (M.I.) through the game of "Genius" which is played on a board. This game enhances self-confidence and self-knowledge and thus "brings out the genius in your child". It is accompanied by a booklet explaining your childs multiple intelligences. Adults can also benefit from knowing their Multiple Intelligences (M.I. as opposed to I.Q.) as it can help in self-knowledge and career selection.
I also teach Abstract, Verbal and Numerical Reasoning Skills which are the standard I.Q.- type skills required for passing careers selection tests for Cognitive skills (Police, Fire Service, Armed Services).
I am an easy-going and professional tutor with a positive attidude, and provide all learning resources, games and worksheets for your advancement. | | |
